JOB DESCRIPTION: Structural Steel Estimator and Project Manager
|
POSITION OVERVIEW:
|
We are seeking a skilled and versatile professional to join our team as a Structural Steel Estimator and Project Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs of structural steel projects and managing their execution. Your expertise in estimating and project management will ensure successful project completion within budget and schedule constraints.
|
RESPONSIBILITIES |
- Accurately estimate costs for structural steel projects, including materials, labor, and subcontractor services.
- Perform quantity takeoffs from project plans and collaborate with vendors and subcontractors for competitive pricing.
- Manage project execution, including procurement, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, and adherence to quality standards.
- Monitor project progress, resolve issues, and provide regular updates to
owners and coworkers.
- Must be able to produce budget estimates for contractors.
- Foster positive client relationships and address inquiries or concerns promptly.
- Continuously improve processes and stay updated with industry trends in estimating and project management.
- Be able to determine which projects we need to bid given the skillsets
we have in the shop and also be able to decline bidding projects that are
not best suited for our company.

REQUIREMENTS |
TRAINING PROVIDED BY HMF |
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Field experience preferred. Need to have good understanding of
construction.
- Proven experience as a Structural Steel Estimator and Project Manager.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel construction and proficiency in estimating and project management software.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead teams, make sound decisions, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Miscellaneous & Ornamental Steel Fabricator
|
POSITION OVERVIEW:
|
A Miscellaneous & Ornamental Steel Fabricator is responsible for crafting and creating various steel structures, components, and ornamental designs. This position requires a high level of skill and expertise in working with steel materials, interpreting blueprints, and utilizing various fabrication techniques. The fabricator must have a keen eye for detail and a passion for precision to produce high-quality steel products. Must possess the ability to field measure and produce railing without engineered shop drawings. |
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES |
- Steel Fabrication: Utilize steelworking tools, machinery, and techniques to fabricate and shape steel materials according to project specifications
and/or building code. This includes cutting, bending, welding, and assembling steel components.
- Ornamental Design: Collaborate with architects,
designers, and homeowners to develop and fabricate ornamental steel features, such as railings, fences, gates, staircases, and decorative elements.
- Material Preparation: Prepare steel materials for fabrication by measuring, marking, and cutting steel sheets, bars, and tubes using various tools and equipment.
- Welding and Joining: Utilize welding techniques, such as MIG, TIG, and arc welding, to join steel components securely and accurately. Ensure proper alignment, strength, and finish of welded joints.
- Quality Control: Inspect fabricated steel products to ensure they meet quality standards and project requirements. Make necessary adjustments, repairs, or modifications as needed.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines when operating machinery, handling materials, and performing fabrication tasks. Comply with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and clean fabrication tools, equipment, and machinery regularly to ensure proper functioning and longevity. Report any equipment malfunctions or issues promptly.
- Project Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, contractors, and team members to coordinate fabrication, meet project deadlines, and resolve any fabrication-related issues or challenges.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of fabrication processes, materials used, time spent, and any modifications or changes made during the fabrication process. Provide progress reports and updates as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS |

- High school diploma or equivalent. Vocational training or certification in welding or metal fabrication is highly preferred.
- Proven experience as a steel fabricator or similar role, with a strong portfolio demonstrating proficiency in miscellaneous and ornamental steel fabrication.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Extensive knowledge of steelworking tools, equipment, and fabrication techniques.
- Strong welding skills, including experience with MIG, TIG, and arc welding.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving and time management skills.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects and stand for extended periods.

Structural Steel Layout/Fitter
|
POSITION OVERVIEW:
|
A Structural Steel Layout/Fitter is responsible for the precise placement, assembly, and fitting of structural steel components in various construction projects.
|
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES |
- Interpretation of Blueprints: Study drawings to understand the scope and requirements of the project.
- Steel Layout and Planning: Determine the appropriate layout and positioning of structural steel components, including beams, columns, girders, and braces, based on the
drawings.
- Material Preparation: Review material lists and gather necessary tools and equipment to prepare for steel fitting and assembly. Identify and inspect materials for any defects or issues that may affect installation.
- Structural Steel Fitting: Assemble material and fit accurately to drawings.
- Welding and Joining: Perform welding as required to attach components.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct inspections of completed steel structures to verify compliance with design
shop drawings. Identify and address any deficiencies or inconsistencies.
- Collaboration: Work with shop management to resolve technical issues and ensure smooth project execution.
